The Ultimate Watch of Prestige

Rolex
Available only in precious metals, the Oyster Perpetual Day-Date is the most prestigious and most exclusive watch in the Oyster collection and has always represented the summit of the Rolex art of watchmaking.

At its launch in 1956, the Rolex Day-Date marked a world first: it was the first calendar wristwatch to indicate the day of the week spelt out in full in a window on the dial in addition to the date – a technical feat at the time. Still at the forefront of Rolex watchmaking expertise today, it is made only in 18 ct yellow, white or Everose gold, or in 950 platinum.

Instantaneous day and date

The Rolex Day-Date’s calendar displays the day of the week spelt out in full in an arc-shaped window at 12 o’clock in addition to the date in a separate window. This display relies on disc mechanisms that reveal their ingenious engineering at midnight, when the day and date change simultaneously and instantaneously. The indication of the day of the week is available in a choice of 26 languages. Both the date and day can be rapidly adjusted using the winding crown.

The “Presidents” watch

The Day-Date has always represented the summit of the Rolex art of watchmaking. The exceptional precision, reliability, legibility and presence of this model have made it the ultimate status watch. The Rolex Day-Date has been worn by many political figures, leaders and visionaries worldwide. It is highly distinctive, in particular thanks to its emblematic President bracelet whose evocative name, together with the eminent figures who have worn it, ensured the Day-Date became known as the “presidents’ watch”.

The President bracelet

Designed specially for the Rolex Day-Date at its launch in 1956, the elegant and imposing President bracelet is inherent to the standing of the watch. Immediately recognizable, this solid gold or platinum bracelet with three semi-circular links provides complete reliability and comfort.

The Day-Date features the concealed President bracelet attachment system beneath the bezel, which ensures seamless visual continuity between the bracelet and case. The Day-Date 40’s bracelet includes ceramic inserts inside the links to enhance its flexibility and longevity. Each President bracelet is fitted with the elegant concealed Crownclasp, opened with a hinged Rolex crown - the final aesthetic and functional touch to this bracelet. The Day-Date 36 is also available with an alligator leather strap that is fitted with a folding Oysterclasp.

New generation movement

Calibre 3255 is a new-generation movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex for a superlative level of performance. This self-winding mechanical movement is at the forefront of the art of watchmaking. A consummate demonstration of Rolex technology, it offers fundamental gains in terms of precision, power reserve, resistance to shocks and magnetic fields, convenience and reliability.

The oscillator is fitted on the Rolex-designed and-patented high-performance Paraflex shock absorbers, increasing shock resistance by 50 per cent.

Calibre 3255 incorporates the Chronergy escapement patented by Rolex, which combines high energy efficiency with great dependability. Made of nickel-phosphorus, it is also insensitive to magnetic interference. Thanks to its barrel architecture and the escapement’s superior efficiency, the power reserve of calibre 3255 extends to approximately 70 hours.
